The Milky Way

The Milky Way is the galaxy which is the home of our solar system together with at least 300 billion other stars. Most of these stars are not visible from Earth, Our solar system located in the outer reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy, Which is spiral galaxy.

As galaxy, the Milky Way  is actually a giant, as it’s mass is probably between 750 billion and one trillion solar masses , and it’s diameter is about 100000 light years. The Milky Way is believed to be more than 13 billion years old. Which is estimated to be virtually as old as the entire universe itself. The Milky Way galaxy is actually just one of billions of galaxies contained within the universe.

The arms of the Milky Way are named for the constellations that are seen in those directions. The major arms of the Milky Way galaxy are the perseus Arm, Sagittarius Arm, Centaurus Arm, and Cygnus Arm; Our solar system is in a minor arm called the Orion Spur. The central hub contains old stars and at least one black hole; younger stars are in the arms, along with dust and gas that from new stars.
